RECENT PROJECTS

Fanti-Language HIV/AIDs Prevention Messages
A group of youth gathered from across the Central Region to talk about HIV/AIDs and other Health related issues. At the end of the conference they were asked to develop messages for the radio, to pass what they had learned on to other youths. They developed messages and a song in their local language, Fanti, to speak to other youth about HIV/AIDs prevention. The messages were recorded in the Fanti traditional language and produced into a series of 15 30-45 second clips. Copies were distributed to radio stations in Fanti-speaking areas. Stations have reported that the messages are particularly effective since it is youth speaking to youth. Producing in Fanti was most important, as this allows the message to be understood by the least schooled segments of these regions, those who can not read and can not speak English.

Support materials with basic facts about HIV/AIDS was included with the tapes, for background information.

Income Generation Handbook
A handbook on how to mobilize resources for community radio stations was compiled and produced. The book emphasized involving the community and reducing dependence. Community Radio Stations have a difficult time in maintaining funding, as with most non-profit organisations. This handbook's goal was to introduce some strategies for generating both income and community support.
