Hillbrow Community Media Centre

In Hilbrow, a one of the most disadvantaged communities in Joburg, some tenants have organised themselves into housing co-operative, removing the illegal slum landlord - one step in making life for themselves, and their children, better. This complex is located within an abandoned nursing college, complete with now unused teaching halls, conference rooms, and even a theatre. This housing complex is made up of 700 rooms, with an average 3 people in each. Over 2000 people live here - 40% are 20 and under, and over half are female.

CMFD is developing a media centre within this Housing Association This will provide income opportunities, increase employability, and develop opportunities for the voices of the disadvantaged to be expressed.

This co-operative will be self-sustaining, but we need your support to get started. Your donation of any size will be well used!
