| MUSIC CMFD
Productions develops, writes, records and produces music. In some cases
this is developed as part of a social issue oriented project. In
others, we offer high quality recording facilities for African
musicians. Our specalty is producing music for social change, that is
music that aims to create dialogue and use music to encouarage positive
social norms around such issues as women's rights, discrimination, HIV
etc.. As with all of our programming, professional high quality music
is created through a process that involves the paricipation of the
target community in in the creative process. . |

Mocambique theme song (Portuguese, 681kb) - created through a
participatory process with chldren during the Desperta Mocambique
project. The children
sing about how they have the right to study, to learn, to have a house,
to
health, protection, etc.

PROJECTS Musicians against xenophobia Musicians from Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe are putting xenophobia on the cultural agenda in a musical initiative to get people talking about discrimination. Humbanane - (South Africa, Nov 2006 - Feb. 2007) -

for women's rights, an Afro-Jazz compilation. Switha Hela (Shangaan) A girl tells her sister to take care travelling to joburg, Andiyiqondi (Zulu) A mellow jazz tune telling of a wise old woman questioning the violence she sees around her. Alertos Da Vida (Shangaan & Portuguese) A funky marrabenta inspired beat calling to Africans to care for each other. Theme song for Alertas Da Vida group. Safe Journey (South Africa & Lesotho, Nov. 2005 - Feb. 2006) (Music by Bhudaza Mapafane and radio programmes about HIV and migration) Qoleng Ea Kobo (SeSotho)- about about prevention and awareness. Tlala Ea Bosiu (SeSotho) - about loneliness in the mines, reminding people that a moment of closeness can have long-term impacts on the individual and their family back home. Koatsi (Ea Bosolla Hlapi) (SeSotho)- about family responsibility, coupled with discrimination, both referring to discrimination against migrant workers and PLWHA. |
